The Jurong Lake District
Untapped potential
Jurong Lake District is one of three regional centres identified under the Concept Plan to provide attractive locations for commercial development outside the city centre. The aim is to cater to the diverse needs of businesses and to create job opportunities closer to where people live.
Companies that set up their offices and businesses here will be able to:
• Gain ready access to a large labour and customer pool from more than one million residents in the surrounding towns of Clementi, Bukit Batok, Jurong East and Jurong West
• Enjoy close proximity to more than 3,000 MNCs and SMEs around the International Business Park and the Jurong and Tuas Industrial Estates
• Tap on a large talent pool from the many surrounding tertiary institutions such as the Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, as well as research hubs such as One-North and the Science Park
Connectivity
Jurong Lake District is just about 20 mins from the CBD and the Tuas Second Link. It is well served by 2 major expressways (PIE and AYE), 2 major MRT lines (North-South and East-West), 3 MRT stations and a bus interchange.
Capitalising on Natural Assets
Jurong Lake District is the only regional centre with a lakeside setting and gardens right at its doorstep. These unexploited assets offer enormous opportunities– to transform the area from a sleepy expanse, into a place with life and activity amid pockets of respite.
The Right Mix
A diverse mix of uses has been planned for the area to meet the needs of businesses, workers, residents and visitors. There will be offices, shops, hotels, F&B, homes, sports and recreation facilities, civic and community institutions, parks and community spaces.
Key Strategies:
Develop Jurong Gateway into an attractive commercial hub with an integrated network of pedestrian walkways between buildings and public amenities.
Create new and unique leisure destinations around Jurong Lake with edutainment attractions for the whole family.
Bring the Lake closer to Jurong Gateway through the introduction of possible new waterways and pedestrian linkages.
Heighten the sense of greenery with new landscaped malls, open spaces and park connectors and skyrise greenery.
Key Strategies
Create New and Unique Leisure Destinations
* Come close to the waters
* New world class science centre integrated with Chinese Garden MRT
Lakeside will be all about edutainment and entertainment, especially for families with young children. This focus will also differentiate Lakeside from Singapore’s other three tourism clusters (Marina Bay, Southern Waterfront and Mandai).
With 220ha of land and 70ha of water, Lakeside provides opportunities for recreational uses and four to five new attractions.
Bring the Lake Closer
A new waterway can be created to bring the lake closer to Jurong Gateway.
Imagine an intimate street-based, low-rise development on the newly created island by the lake.
There will be F&B, retail, boutique hotels and entertainment. This will be the natural place for business get-togethers or after-work dinner and drinks, as it will be an easy 10-minute stroll from Jurong Gateway via the landscaped, sheltered walkways.
Heighten Sense of Greenery
* Locate your business in an attractive location set in lush greenery
Jurong Gateway will be integrated with Lakeside by pedestrian links and a continuous mall with lush landscaping. This begins at the concourse of Jurong East MRT station and runs all the way to the proposed lakeside village at Jurong Lake.
Expect more foliage and trees all around. With a strong emphasis on a garden setting, imagine being greeted with visual treats of terraced greenery on developments facing the MRT tracks. At street level, buildings will be set back to create pleasantly landscaped open spaces, park connectors and intimate streetscapes. Up above, residents can lounge in sky-rise rooftop greenery.
View corridors created through the development sites at Jurong Gateway will provide views and vistas towards the lake and parks. These will be constant reminders of the unique lakeside garden setting.
Develop Jurong Gateway into an Attractive Commercial Hub
For a seamless commuter experience the moment you step off the train, all buildings and public transport facilities in Jurong Gateway will be accessible via a network of walkways at ground level and at the 2nd storey. These will let you walk from place to place under all weather conditions.
Lakeside
New Waterfront Playground with More Green and Thrills by the Lake
Spread over 290ha, residents and visitors can look forward to new parks, improved promenades, more water activities and numerous attractions blended in with the scenic lakeside setting:
Shop & Dine at the New Lakeside Village
A new Lakeside Village will be created next to the Jurong Lake. The village offers unique shopping and dining experience, complemented by entertainment uses and boutique hotels set by the lakeside. This village will be connected to Jurong Gateway through a network of walkways, making it a natural gathering place for residents, visitors and people working nearby.
Stroll along an Enhanced Public Park
Enjoy more of the beautiful lake with a new park at the western edge of Jurong Lake, near Lakeside MRT Station, and an enhanced waterfront promenade around the lake. Residents will be able to take a stroll and enjoy the natural beauty of the lake.
Come Close to the Waters
Treat yourself to fun water activities like kayaking and dragon boating in the lake. As part of PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters programme, a portion of Jurong Lake will be dredged, to allow water activities to take place. Wetlands will also be constructed in the lake beside the new public park. This will enhance the natural ecology of the area and serve as an educational highlight for children.
New Edutainment Pursuits
Get set for new attractions and fun around the lake - for example, explore the new world class Science Centre to be located next to Chinese Garden MRT Station.
Stroll to the Gardens
More connections will be made to the two islands within the lake, so that residents can enjoy better access to the gardens. The gardens will also see improved programming and amenities to transform them into attractive sanctuaries for rest and relaxation.
Linked by MRT
Getting here by public transport will be hassle-free, as the Chinese Garden and Lakeside MRT stations are just a stone’s throw away.

Prime Business Location by the Lake
Located around the Jurong East MRT Station, the new plans for the 70ha Jurong Gateway is to develop it into a vibrant commercial hub; the biggest outside the city centre.
Something for Everyone
Here, you will find an excellent mix of office, retail, residential, hotel, entertainment, F&B and other complementary uses. This will be an appealing environment for company HQs, business services and companies in the science and technology sectors.
There will be land at the Jurong Gateway to house at least 500,000 sqm of office space and 250,000 sqm of retail, F&B and entertainment uses. At least 2,800 hotel rooms will also be developed to cater to business travellers and visitors to the leisure destinations around the lake. To add vitality and create a “live, work, play and learn” environment, 1,000 or more homes will be introduced around Jurong East MRT station. This will offer people the option to live and work in the same vicinity. Land will be released in tandem with market demand.
Seamless Connections, More Greenery
From Jurong East MRT station, pedestrians can walk conveniently and comfortably to most developments and public facilities around the area and to Jurong Lake through an extensive network of pedestrian links and landscape malls.
They can also experience lush greenery with new landscaped open spaces and park connectors introduced at the street-level. Skyrise and rooftop greenery will also be on many of the buildings in the area.
Key buildings a feature can enjoy scenic views of the lake. For example, buildings around the Jurong East MRT station will step down towards the lake, allowing more to enjoy panoramic views of the lake.
